The Web of things is expected to connect people, information, procedures and devices on a massive scale from the end of the decade - a whopping 50 billion links. Before one starts worrying about the prospects of humankind being in danger from a take-over by machines, one needs to work out how the opportunities posed by the Internet of things are put to optimal use, which itself will involve some performing.

The biggest existential threat to people won't be from sci-fi film similar to scenarios where artificially intelligent robots and machines will rebel against humans, but from the security vulnerability that this mass scale convergence could contribute to. A less than totally equipped system might for example impact upon the entire system and result in devastating consequences on an unparalleled scale.

Considering that real artificial intelligence is currently at an infantile stage, it's rather ridiculous to be tilting at wind mills when we be worried about the danger it poses to people. Let's know to fully reap the benefits that the Web of things, some basic artificial intelligence and evolving robotic technologies attract to us. When the time comes we shall ourselves find the solution to any potential danger in the future. We constantly have.

The industrial revolution, when it came from the eighteenth century, evoked similar terror and trepidation, but things worked out more or less fine in the end of it. There were really serious social and economic consequences of the revolution which had to be overcome before things settled down.

In the meantime we need to prepare our youngsters to deal with these emerging technologies since this can help them find employment in the times ahead. There will of course be job losses for a few due to the gain in most round automation, but there will be other chances aplenty for people who expect and prepare for the paradigm change in the way businesses and business will conduct their own affairs in the times ahead. We are entering very interesting times indeed.
